Random Thoughts…Week 4

Posted by Barry on September 25th, 2006

I think it was a slow week in college feetsball.

I think Michigan State is a disaster.

I think Del made a good wager that the first score in the Bama Razorbacks game would be a field goal.

I think its a helluva time for Chuck Amato to decide to show up.

I think its cool that Rutgers has reinvented itself.

I think Clemson might be pretty good.

I think Ole Miss is going to be looking for a new head coach before the end of this year….

I think Notre Dame better watch out for Purdue next week.

I think it’s interesting that Michigan AND Texas both won by exactly the large point spread they were supposed to.

I think Cal is going to screw my bet every single week.

I think I’m really glad the A&M vs Tech game is finally here so we can find out if the Aggies actually have improved and exactly what kind of team they will be after 4 games worth of experimenting.

Random Thoughts…Week 3

I think Army deserved to win that game

I think I hurt my ankle this weekend.
Jumping off the Notre Dame Band Wagon.
I think it’s a tweaking of an old injury.
I sprained it last weekend jumping ON their bandwagon

I think the job Petrino is doing at Louisville is remarkable.
He started the year top 15 with two Heisman candidates and 3 games into the season his RB is lost for the year, the QB is lost for half the year, and they are still 3-0 and rolling people. I think I’d check into his contract status if I was in the market
for a new coach….

I think TCU might watch out for Gary Patterson too.
Anyone who can keep Texas Tech out of the endzone will have suitors….

I think that as of 8:00 pm eastern I thought the Aggies had a real shot at 11-0 heading into Austin since Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Tech all struggled and didn’t look that good.
Plus they all have to come to Kyle.

I think that as of 1:00 am eastern the Aggies looked schizophrenic and have a real shot at ANYTHING from 11-0 to 6-5 heading into Austin

I think that anyone screaming about Coach Fran’s decision to go for it on 4th and 1 should really be screaming about our inability to GET one yard on Army.

I think the dude from Louisville who said
“This ain’t the same old Miami team”
was right.

I think the due from Nebraska who said they would
“beat USC and show the world that Nebraska’s back”
was wrong

I think the Texas Aggie football team was hung over.
I think the officials in the Oregon Oklahoma game were still drunk.
I think Larry Coker should get drunk.

I think the Big 12 deserves the same dogging I gave the Big 10+1
There’s Texas and not much else, and Texas ain’t all that either.

I think Army deserved to win that game

Too bad Kinky doesn’t have any opinions….

College marching bands will not be allowed to play stupid take-offs of current pop music tunes. The ONE and only exception to this is rule is playing “Tusk” by Fleetwood Mac. However, your college band will be required to have a minimum of 10 drummers performing it.

Yes it’s crude, rude, and socially unacceptable.

But I might have to get one of these….

And it made you laugh too didn’t it?

Aggies TE Martellus Bennet speaks

Posted by Barry on September 13th, 2006

“You’re doing something right if you have groupies.”

and he makes me laugh…

Much as I detest Texas Tech, ya gotta love Leach

When asked his opinion of the new clock rules in college football:

“I think simply stated that it’s the stupidest rule to come out in a significantly long time,” he said.

“I think this is such a great idea, maybe they should limit both teams to 20 plays, then we would really get them the games over quickly,” Leach said. “Then everybody go out and tailgate. The players and coaches can
mingle with the fans and really share in the whole game-day activity.”

From The Tonya Harding school of football….

Just makes ya wonder what he might have done had they been at a real football school….

“Reserve punter arrested for allegedly stabbing rival in kicking leg”

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — The University of Northern Colorado’s reserve punter was arrested Tuesday, accused of stabbing his rival in his kicking leg.

Mitch Cozad, a sophomore from Wheatland, Wyo., allegedly attacked starting punter Rafael Mendoza in a parking lot in Evans on Monday night, Evans police Lt. Gary Kessler said.

Mendoza, the Bears’ first-string punter from Thornton, was treated and released from the North Colorado Medical Center Monday night. Coach Scott Downing said Mendoza will not punt for UNC in Saturday’s
game at Texas State University.

“I don’t know how long he’ll be out because I haven’t talked to the doctor,” Downing said.

Cozad, Mendoza and freshman Zak Bigelow had been in a three-way race for the starting punter’s job in preseason training. Mendoza has averaged 37.6 yards-per-punt on nine punts in the two games so far
this season.

Cozad is facing second-degree assault charges and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a bond hearing.

Random Thoughts for Week 2

Kudos to Fisher DeBerry.
That took some serious cajones….

Why did Mack Brown look like he got hit by a car after the Ohio State loss? I know he got bumped on the sideline and had a nick on his upper lip (or herpes), but the post game press conference was the most dishevelled-looking coach I’ve seen. Looked like he’d been on a three day bender….
Methinks he knows what’s coming in Austin.

OK, so maybe Notre Dame is better than I thought.
Ditto for Ohio State.
I think  LSU and Auburn are as good as I thought.

I love Martellus Bennett’s attitude and fun spirit, but honestly…
can you have a Legion with only 2 guys?

Heard several commentators complimenting Missouri.
Hope we don’t overlook that one…

Not a good weekend for the t-sips hee hee.
In addition to the Ohio St debacle
God Jr. (aka Vince Young) threw  his first INT for Tennessee
and Chris Simms and the Bucs got pasted by Baltimore
while he threw for only 133 yards and 3 more INTs….

Who else thought UTEP was going to keep giving Tech extra plays via penalties AFTER the game clock ran out
so they could keep trying hail mary bombs and long FGs, all to no avail….

Then Tech tries to give it back in OT with a penalty that negated the winning TD and two penalties that
pushed them back 30 yards and almost out of FG range.

Then they hit a long pass to set up the winning 40 yard FG which of course hit the upright and bounced thru.
Wild wacky stuff.

Who does Duke need to payoff to actually win a  game?
That was a brutal way to lose a game.

How does Chuck Amato still have a job?

How did the person who designed the Syracuse uniforms
EVER get a job?

Syracuse doesn’t deserve to win a game.
7 count ‘em SEVEN plays from inside the 2 yard line and zero points.
In Overtime.
They deserve those uni’s…

The Big 10 (11?) is really
1 Big 1
1 Large 1 tbd in Michigan
and 9 others who suck.
Hey to Penn State getting bombed,
Illinois getting bombed by Rutgers
Minnesota getting bombed by Cal (who got bombed by Tenn)
Northwestern getting humiliated by 1AA New Hampshire
Indiana barely escaping Ball State thanks to a missed PAT
Purdue escaping MACs Miami of OH in OT
Iowa, albeit missing their starting QB, barely escaping a BAD Syracuse team,
and Wisc and Mich State beating weak teams as they should have.
Ohio State is clearly the man amongst the boys.
So I wonder who they’re going to screw it up against….

I am becoming a curmudgeon….

I’ve realized that for things that I don’t thoroughly understand, or things that I have had to learn how to do, I really HATE CHANGE. Specifically with software that works fine, but when the “engineers” decide to improve it, they change the user interface and suddenly I no longer know how to use it. I must be getting old.
